Heyhey, I got to spend most of the weekend in lovely St.Georgen,Salzburg for Comitatus Club's annual Late Fall event.
Sadly I've had to skip last year, since it was on the same weekend was Vienna Comic Con then, and I had already wormed my way was already booked there. But this year I was back at Late Fallwith a vengeance, at lovely Gasthof z'Eching. Just as with Austrian Salute in the spring - lovely venue.
The 3.5 hours drive there was very foggy, very grey, but some audioplays made that go down easy. It's those drives though when I miss the Meeples and Miniatures podcast again.
Quick trip to Silent Night Games to chat and pick up some stuff, then off to Eching for set-up.
The day of Late Fall was busy and a good time all around. Not much to say, on to the tables, eh?
Horus Heresy
Yeeeeah, big HH table, loads of vehicles and terrain. It looked like a proper scrum. I keep hearing good things about the HH rules actually. Couldn't attend much of the game sadly, but it looked mighty impressive. Space Marines have that effect.
Das Schwarze Auge - Schicksalspfade
As with past shows, Brazork made his way from Tyrol and brought Schicksalspfade to demo.
I mentioned it in the blogpost about Austrian Salute - I got a soft spot for Das Schwarze Auge. Neither have I played the game itself in decades, nor have I read much about the world in equally long a time. But I will always have the highest of appreciations for the world and the community (up Thorwin's [sic] Taverne!).
Sadly, Schicksalspfade was discontinued a long time ago, but apart from Westphalia Miniatures, who recently released a range of DSA-based figures, apparently the owner of Kraken Miniatures in Poland is a DSA fan and had a range released recently. There always should be a range of DSA miniatures available, just like the role-playing game's rules. +++EDIT: ...which there is of course. Delln let me know that Ral Partha still sell the Armalion ranges. Wahey! ++++
Which have to be punishing and weirdly complicated, because that's how we like it, damnit! :-D Speaking of rules, I got to sit in with a turn of a demo game of Schicksalspfade. Seems like a neat, solid game.
Warcry
Games Workshop's Warcry has become a staple of wargames show I attend. People really dig those rules, and make lovely tables for them. The entry hurdle is low, the figures are plentiful and lovely, and the rules are fast and fun. Good stuff. Two Warcry boards were present on the day (one LED-lit!), and somehow I missed taking pictures of them.
But hey, I took a picture of the figures the presenters brought, so that's nice, right? Haven't seen that cat figure in the flesh often, but ever since its release I found it very, very pleasant looking. At some point maybe I can pick one up and paint it. Cool figure.

Age of Sigmar
Yes, there was an AoS table too of course! And a pretty one at that (none of those pie plates you seee on those sometimes). Sons of Behemat vs. Skaven!
Battlegroup: Budapest 1944
A big, smshing 15mm Battlegroup table.
Soviets vs. Hungarian/Geman forces across a desolate freight depot. Very striking look, proper sized table. Second place for the 'most impressive table' prize.
BloodBowl / Rumbleslam
All-new gaming club
Salzburger Freiwürfler had their debut at Late Fall with two sports games! The all-new edition of BloodBowl, as well as Rumbleslam, TTC's fantasy pro wrestling game.

Would have loved to see Rumbleslam in action, because it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the Freiwürfler in the future!
Carnevale
Speaking of TTCombat games, teager40k and Celestine presented a most lovely Carnevale table.
The whole board is based on two field study trips to Venice. Buildings are scratch-built or heavily converted.
Carnevale pops up regularly at these shows, and the main draw is always the table itself. While TTC offer rather nice cardboard buildings for the game as well as MDF ones, this is a cut above. Lovely table, most deservedly won 'most impressive table' on the day.
Mutant Year Zero: Zone Wars

Roll-the-Dice , another stalwart at these shows, not only brought a whole lot of boxes and blisters of goodness for purchase, but also the obligatory lovely demo table.
A skirmish game, based on the Mutant Year Zero RPG, written by Andy Chambers.
I didn't catch anything about the rules, but the figures look rather tempting.
Warhammer 40k & Kill Team
Yes, even more GW games! Come to think of it, we had almost all current GW games covered this time, barring The Old World and Necromunda, right?

Valor & Fortitude: The battle of Graudenz (1807)
And then there was the Napoleonic big battle. This 7+ players affair was a long time coming. El Cid has been working on his early Prussians for a good while, and the attackers (French, Bavarians) have been busy as well. I had the honour to supply paint to some of the troops on the French side.

Quite the spectactle, and the battle went on all day and by the looks of it, the people involved had a good time.
Apart from Roll-the-Dice (see above),
DicetillDawn was present again as well, having lovely RPG books and boardgames on offer and running demo tables throughout the day.

A great addition to the show. Another new addition to the show was warciaminis, who showed a bunch of lovely figures he painted.
I had my new Detolf glass cabinet with me as well as a whole lot of figures I'd painted lately to show to people.
As always, I had a good time at Late Fall. It's a bit quieter than Austrian Salute, but it's just the time of the year, and the quality of the tables and the chats made up for that.

| I also bought toys! |
So yeah, thanks to the organizers, thanks to everybody who dropped by, thanks to everybody who ran demo/participation games. I dig Late Fall, and I'm very much looking forward to the anniversary edition next year!
Now I gotta try to get stuff done before I have to pack up again for the next big event: Vienna Comic Con next weekend (22./23.November). It will be vastly different, but equally lovely!
