On Friday, 13th of October we got together at the holy halls of the premier gaming club in Vienna to celebrate the very first Too Fat Lardies Games Day!

WIP: American Civil War Civilians (also: Gettysburg[1993])

Here are the first few 28mm American Civil War civilians I'm painting for skirmish games with a narrative, namely the glorious Sharp Practice 2 of course. These rather fine minis are by Redoubt Enterprises. There are two more to come - a priest and another lady.

A few weeks ago instead of wargaming we met and watched the Gettysburg film from 1993. Here are a few (very few) thoughts on the film.

Showcase: Guildball Veterans!

Here's a quick in-between batch of Guild Ball miniatures. Mostly veteran versions of models I painted prior for various teams, plus Hag and of course the great Memory and Brainpan.

Good to see Steamforged constantly improving the quality of the sculpts and casts. Certainly not cheap, but the minis are top quality. The rules also are said to be really solid.

Showcase: Nurgle Poxwalkers

As some of you are aware I bought the new 40k starter box at release. First I wrote a 4-part review of the new rules and an overview of what's in the new bigbox. All of that you can read here: pt.1 , pt.2 , pt.3 , pt.4

Of course I gotta paint the minis from the box as well, starting with the Poxwalkers. In my opinion most interesting sculpts from the box.

I'm still not perfectly happy with the basing; I guess I should add some vegetation or something to it, but I'll choose on that once all the Nurgle minis are finished.  For now the Poxwalkers are done, and the horns weren't even as bothersome to paint than I thought. Hooray! Hope you like them.

Oh, and today's my birthday. W00t!

Showcase: Bigger ACW-Regiments Pt.3!

As mentioned before, here are the 2nd Louisiana 'Alligator Rangers' with their base size increased from 6 to 8.

I took the liberty to use single bases on two of the horsemen too just in case I feel like playing something skirmish-y.

Of course this means I also have to add four more dismounted cavalry. Good thing I still have a bunch of half-painted dismounted Confederate cavalrymen from the Sash&Saber range. :) Now where did I put those models....

Showcase: Bigger ACW-Regiments Pt.2!

My next step toward a campaign-sized force for Longstreet was bumping my Butternut-clad regiment up to 10 bases.

Showcase: Bigger ACW-Regiments Pt.1!

A Longstreet campaign is becoming a thing again for our group, and thus I'm required to bump my usually 6-bases ACW units up to 10 bases each, at least three of them. Luckily the Perrys plastics boxes come with a lot of figures, so I still had a good reserve. I started with the 3rd Louisiana in their regulation dress which probably was never widely introduced at all.

Painting these additional 4 bases (the ones in the front, apart from the command base) made me really appreciate the older Perrys ACW plastic infantry. They're just very nice to paint and aren't much work to put together. Brilliant, perfectly serviceable gaming pieces.

Showcase: Super Dungeon Explore Pt.15

It's the flamey dudes! In the back you can see that Roxxor himself (the Big'Un) is still WIP in that shot, the rest is done. Really cool little figures.

Showcase: Canoness Veridyan

Right, she's done! Cool that I got to add another mini to my Sisters of Battle army for the first time in three years. :-) Hope you like her!

I'm off the Austrian Salute now. Expect a show report soon!

WIP: Canoness Veridyan #2

Here's the second WIP of the Canoness, and things are looking better already, don't you think? The face doesn't look quite as much of a mess any more, I did some painting on the sword blade, neatened up the metallics, did the hair and such. It's just cool to do that old colour scheme again. :-)

Showcase: Guild Ball Hunters #1

Here are the first models from a Guild Ball team I painted in late 2016 - the Hunter's Guild team!

Showcase: Skaven Assassins

Another one from late last year which slipped into this year. It's a bunch of lovely Skaven Assassins for Mordheim (I still tend to type Mortheim, because for the German version they changed the name as "Mord" is "Murder" in German and that would have been a bit too much on the nose).

You'll notice that in this picture you can see two incarnations of Master Assassin Snikch. I like both to be honest. I tried to reflect the differences in style in the paintjob too, with a slightly dirtier look to classic Snikch and a more flashy, high-contrast kind of black and overall look on new Snikch. Made me think of Terry Pratchett's  musings on the black on assassins' cloaks and such.

Another thing: I never really painted Skaven before this project. Maybe the odd ratman here and there, but never a full army or even warband, so that was cool.

Showcase: Super Dungeon Explore Group Shots!

Over the past few weeks I posted several updates on this big project I did late last year. Here are the final group shots. It was really a lot of work, but these two pictures alone make up for a lot of swearing during the process.

Looking at these the phrase 'THANK YOU FOR PLAYING' comes to mind.

And this isn't even the end to the Super Dungeon Explore Saga...
